In 2016 I worked for the Ihme – Contemporary Art Festival<\/a> and the Helsinki City Youth Division offices. Artist Kate\u0159ina \u0160ed\u00e1<\/strong> developed the Tram Buskers\u2019 Tour for Ihme, which inspired me to produce a series of workshops focusing on urban soundscapes. I interviewed young adults and their mothers, to learn how they experience the city and how they imagine its development in the far future. We worked together with Jonna Kalliom\u00e4ki<\/strong> and artist Hassan Maikal<\/strong>, who guided our work at the Puhos shopping-center and executed field recordings in Kontula and It\u00e4keskus. The workshops aimed to sensitise participants to urban soundscapes. The interviews were transcribed, to be shared with researchers and artists working on sound studies. As a culmination of the workshop series we produced a sound guide titled Hear and There+<\/em> (48min). On the tape young adults and their mothers share their experience of inhabiting east Helsinki, by detailing different soundscapes they observe daily. Stories heard on the tape are primarily by mothers who were born in Arab-Islamic nations and by young Finnish adults. Some stories compare soundscapes from different cities to each other. The sound guides were published as two cassette tapes, which were offered to the It\u00e4keskus Youth Centre Kipin\u00e4 and the Kallahti Youth Centre (were the Finnmamut Association is based). If you want to hear the recordings you have to travel to these locations and ask to listen to them onsite. They are only available in Finnish.<\/p>\n

Toimin 2016 Ihme – nykytaidefestivaalin ja Helsingin Nuorisoasiainkeskuksen yhteisprojektin taiteilijana. Taitelija Kate\u0159ina \u0160ed\u00e1<\/strong> toteutti Ihmeen puitteissa ratikkasoittajien kiertueen, mink\u00e4 innoittamana suunnittelin nuorten Helsinkil\u00e4isten sek\u00e4 heid\u00e4n \u00e4itiens\u00e4 \u00e4\u00e4nimaisemakokemuksiin pohjautuvan ty\u00f6paja-sarjan. Haastattelin nuoria ja \u00e4itej\u00e4 yhdess\u00e4 Jonna Kalliom\u00e4en<\/strong> kanssa. \u00c4\u00e4nityksiin osallistui my\u00f6s taiteilija Hassan Maikal<\/strong>, joka toimi oppaana kauppakeskus Puhoksessa ja toteutti kentt\u00e4-\u00e4\u00e4nityksi\u00e4 Kontulassa sek\u00e4 It\u00e4keskuksessa. Ty\u00f6pajoissa herkistyttiin \u00e4\u00e4nimaisemille ja jaettiin niiden her\u00e4tt\u00e4mi\u00e4 tuntemuksia. Haastattelut on litteroitu ja jaettu tutkija sek\u00e4 taiteilija k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n. Ty\u00f6n p\u00e4\u00e4tteeksi julkaisimme Mit\u00e4 kuuluu+<\/em> \u00e4\u00e4niopasteen (48min), jolla joukko nuoria ja heid\u00e4n \u00e4itej\u00e4\u00e4n tulkitsee kaupunkien \u00e4\u00e4nimaisemaa. \u00c4\u00e4ness\u00e4 on arabialais-islamilaisista kaupungeista l\u00e4ht\u00f6isin olevia \u00e4itej\u00e4 ja nuoria suomalaisia. \u00c4\u00e4nitteell\u00e4 verrataan eri kaupunkien v\u00e4lisi\u00e4 \u00e4\u00e4ni\u00e4 ja uumoillaan milt\u00e4 Helsinki kuulostaa tulevaisuudessa. Opaste julkaistiin ainoastaan kahtena C-kasettinauhana, jotka luovutettiin It\u00e4skeskuksen nuorisotalolle Kipin\u00e4lle sek\u00e4 Kallahden nuorisotalolle (miss\u00e4 toimintaan osallistunut Finnmamut ry yhdistys toimii).
