If I’ve understood “Situated Knowledges:<\/a>\u00a0[\u2026]” by Donna Haraway correctly, she claims provocatively\u00a0that\u00a0the ones oppressed by the system do not understand the system better than the oppressors (I believe she’s arguing in this manner in an effort to motivate women into\u00a0engaging with “hard-sciences”).<\/p>\n

“To see from below is neither easily learned or unproblematic, even if ‘we’ ‘naturally’ inhabit the great underground terrain of subjugated knowledges. [\u2026] The standpoints of the subjugated are not ‘innocent’ positions. [\u2026] ‘Subjugated’ standpoints are preferred because they seem to promise more adequate, sustained, objective, transforming accounts of\u00a0the world. But\u00a0how<\/em> to see from below is a problem requiring at least as much skill with bodies and language, with the mediations of vision, as the ‘highest’ technoscientific visualizations.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Derrida insisted that\u00a0all human codes and cultural expressions are \u201cwriting\u201d and that\u00a0everything can be understood\u00a0as\u00a0text.\u00a0This means that bodies bashing against structures and seeking\u00a0affordances, are in fact “reading”\u00a0our culture. From this perspective the ones that\u00a0are exposed to the violence of our\u00a0system have more access to to it’s structures! Do victims understand crimes better than criminals?<\/p>\n
