From personal trauma, to opposition of Victorian age dogma, to proto-feminism, to carefully plotted orgies (to incest), to small scale eugenics, to capitalism Story of the Oneida Community by Lisa Hix. The text also explains why we believe we need different forks for salads and the main meal.

Visited the ARTSI museum in Vantaa for the COVER ART – LONG LIVE VINYL exhibition opening. The mood of the opening was nice and the audience was a positive mix of musicians who were involved with the cover art and ordinary citizens from the Vantaa suburbs. By chance I also met the insect cook Topi Kairenius. I got a copy of the exhibition book in which I wrote a short text about the Record Singers group (txt in Fi).

I browsed through the exhibition and hasted to the Suomenlinna ferry to join the Helsinki art organizations joined grand party at the HIAP residency. Met with Paula Lehtonen and Jenni Pystynen and recapped my trouble with the police at last years Mänttä Art festival. Pekka Toivonen was playing techno but I had to leave for the 22:00 ferry.

Ate mealworms and house crickets cooked by Topi Kairenius at the edible garden insect event. The house crickets had been harvested from an Entocube. I was invited to present the Zoovision with cockroaches together with Marjo Priha from Helsinki Zoo. She gave the audience an introduction on how insects are involved in the zoo food production chain.

Got to know Esa Nickle from the Performa biannual crew thanks to a hook up by Frame Finland. She was cool and we talked about famous actors and musicians who’ve started to fiddle with performance art (she had been involved with the Jay-Z & Abramović performance etc.) and how this celebrity trend has repositioned performance artists from performers to content creators. Discussions also touched the gentrification processes in NY city, Estonian contemporary art and conceptual art in non-western cultures (Boris Groys was cited!). I tried to convince her that sharing performance documentations on youtube is a good idea because we need to educate future artist generations, so they’ll know that there is a difference in what Jay-Z is doing as performance and what we we are up to. We had a couple of beers and I’m walking home. Feels like summer.

Got some Grey Cube Gallery documentation videos published. Eeva-Liisa Puhakka & Katrin Caspar is in English and Päivi Allonen in Finnish. If my computer would be faster I’d like to learn how to color grade.

Also got a nice message from the Te Uru gallery in Auckland. As a surprise their crew had edited a video of the labor bee-workcamp-performance at the Huia Road Horse Club. I’m still waiting for confirmation that I can upload it for sharing. The message got me motivated to write about the New Zealand Trans-Horse venture and I’m hoping to publish the video and a text about the trip this week. Already sorted through photos and got them on flickr.com.
