From the fall of 2006 to the spring of 2007 we travelled monthly between Helsinki and Tallinn. We transporting packages of soil with us and build a grass patchwork quilt which united the cities. At the end of the project we had managed to construct 3x3m colonies on opposite shores. The grass integrated well into it’s new environments. Documentations of the project was presented simultaneously at two different locations. At the Tallinn Art Hall Sculpture Speaks: Power&Freedom exhibition (Curated by Kirke Kangro) we presented maps called Tallinn and Helsinki From the Viewpoint of a Businessman Travelling from Saint Petersburg to Stockholm which illustrated the current political and economical connections between the countries. The other location was the Eckeröline “Norlandia” – ferry which journeys daily between the cities. On the boat we showed interviews of people who traveled regularly on the boat.
Kuljimme vuoden ajan säännöllisesti Helsingin ja Tallinnan väliä kuljetellen vuoroin mukanamme pieniä maaperän paloja. Vaihdoimme palaset ristiin vastarannalla. Näin valmistui kaupunkeja yhdistävä ruoho-tilkkutäkki. Maata kaivettiin syksystä 2006 lähtien ja saimme kevääseen 2007 mennessä valmistettua vastarannoille 3x3m kokoiset siirtomaa-alueet. Ruohot integroituivat uusiin ympäristöihinsä erottamattomasti. Työtä dokumentoinut materiaali koottiin kahteen rinnakkaiseen näyttelyyn. Toinen osa oli esillä Tallinnan Taidehallissa osana Sculpture Speaks: Power&Freedom -näyttelyä (Kur. Kirke Kangro). Taidehallin näyttely koostui projektia dokumentoivista valokuvista, teksteistä sekä valtioiden poliittisia ja kaupallisia suhteita kuvittavasta kartasta: Tallinn and Helsinki From the Viewpoint of a Businessman Travelling from Saint Petersburg to Stockholm. Näyttelyn toinen osa toteutu kaupunkien väliä liikennöivän Eckeröline “Norlandia” -lautan kannelle 9. Lautalla oli valokuvien lisäksi esillä lautalla liikkuvien ihmisten haastatteluista koottuja tekstejä.
