NO-CHAIR-DESIGN Campaign 2011-2012
It’s was a heck of a year for the NO-CHAIR-DESIGN Campaign and we succeeded in having an impact in the chair design scene of the world. Viewer statistics indicate that the campaign material has been see by over 100 000 viewers. So we can end of our work on the campaign in style.
Rest assured! People can still join the campaign online and we’ll continue to convince designers to NOT design chairs. NCD-C continues to have an impact. Thank You for making this possible! The feedback we received trough the year has kept our spirits high.
Through this blog we shared critical views to contemporary design and manufacture culture. We explored chair related conceptual artworks and chair representations in arts. All of the posts can be accessed trough the archive.
This blog will now serve as an archive for the project. A selection of best writings provided in the “NCD-C Selected Posts 2012 +” post. If you are interested in organising a campaign of NO-something-DESIGN.. Get in contact with us!
There is still a lot of work to be done. To follow up on stuff happening at Ore.e Ref. subscribe to your newsletter (max 4/year) and DO NOT DESIGN CHAIRS!
xxx,
Ore.e Refineries – NCD-C (Eero Yli-Vakkuri & Jesse Sipola)
ps. We no longer need the invisible chair we made to promote the campaign with. So, if You know of anyone interested in acquiring an invisible chair let us know!! Here is a video of it. Also check out ORS.
Edit (20130331): Luck strikes at OSHIPALA! Oshipala (aka Jesse Sipola) responsible for designing and manufacturing the first invisible chair was contacted by a design studio in Manama. Jesse managed to sell 10 (ten) invisible chairs oversees! Below you’ll find a copy of the FedEx Air Waybill. As this was such a surreal event we made an UN-DI (Un-Digitization) of the receipts using the Ore.e Ref. Digital-to-Tangible methods. (click to view bigger)
Edit (20130922): In a previous post we touched the subject of how Contemporary Art inspires Advertisement Industry. And alas NCD-C is featured on the main page of the fair centre of Helsinki! We visited the site 2012 with the support of Trash Design and even made our way to the 22:00 news with our stunt. The picture on their webpage was taken by Jesse and I posted in on flickr.com under a fairly loose CC license.
