NO-CHAIR-DESIGN: Why call art projects art?

Why NOT call Art projects Art?

(Voice memo on soundcloud covers reasoning)

1. Calling something art causes distrust in audiences as they have been disappointed by art projects of the past. Art seldom delivers what it promises or it’s impact cannot be estimated.

2. People manifest intrinsic hatred towards institutions by criticizing art, as art is defined by institutions (run by governments and corporations). It is the easiest target as it is typically linked with emotions and everyones emotions are equal.

Why call art projects art?

1. If you link gestures into the canon of art then there is a slim chance that it will be used later on (by you peers in the future) to push a political agenda you’d like to see happen.

2. When working in multidisciplinary projects (with academic professions: researchers, government officials etc) they will not see you practice as a threat to their status and they will share resources more easily.
